When you need this

Wiper work is due when: nothing moves on any speed; the sweep has gone slow and tired; the blades stop mid-glass and stay there; only one speed survives; or the wipers no longer park at the bottom when switched off.

In this climate a wiper fault is not a comfort issue — between June and December it is a safety fault with a schedule. And it advertises itself early: the sweep slows, the motor hums where it used to snap, one speed disappears, the park position drifts. Every one of those is the system asking to be repaired at convenience instead of failing in traffic in the rain.

The wiper system is four suspects: the motor, the linkage that turns rotation into sweep, the switch stalk, and the supply through fuse and relay. We test in that order's reverse — cheapest first — because seized linkages and tired switches get sold as "new motor needed" far too often. Motors themselves are repaired where their internals allow it, brushes and gears included, and replaced when repair loses the arithmetic.

Wiper repair — what you should know

Slow wipers are a warning, not a personality

A healthy motor sweeps briskly on day one and day three thousand. Slowing means worn brushes, a dry or rusting linkage, or a supply starving through corroded contacts — all cheaper now than after the seizure they are heading toward.

Stops mid-sweep, or will not park

The park mechanism inside the motor assembly has its own contacts, and they burn just like relay contacts do. Wipers that die mid-glass or refuse to return home usually need that assembly serviced — not a whole new system.

Moves weakly, hums, or trips the fuse

A motor fighting a seized linkage draws heavy current — it hums, crawls and blows fuses while perfectly healthy. Freeing and lubricating the linkage saves the motor and the fuse box both.

Only the fast speed works. Worth fixing?

Yes, and promptly — speeds fail one by one as the motor's windings or the switch wear, and the last speed standing has no understudy. It is also usually the cheap end of the band.

Can it be done today?

Most wiper faults, yes — the test is quick, common parts are stocked, and monsoon season keeps us in practice.

My auto's wiper is manual — can a motor be fitted?

On most three-wheelers, yes — a proper motor conversion with its own fuse and switch, wired correctly rather than hung off the nearest live. Ask with the vehicle model.
