Immobiliser fault diagnosis and repair — we make it work, not make it stop asking

At Kallukatti, Kaliyakkavilai — on the NH-47 (now NH-66), near the Nayara petrol pump. Immobiliser bench work is done at this branch.

after-hours emergency line — call any time: 094872 34923

Also called: immobiliser, security light, anti-theft. The immobiliser is the electronic handshake between your key and the engine. When the handshake fails, the engine stays silent on purpose — and the cure is to repair the handshake.

When you need this

The immobiliser is your suspect when: the security light flashes and stays flashing; the dash wakes normally but the engine will not crank, or cranks and dies in two seconds; a known-good key has suddenly stopped being recognised; or the trouble began right after a battery change, a jump start or electrical work.

Vehicle refusing its own key right now? Call 094872 34923 — tell us what the security lamp is doing and what changed just before; that pattern usually names the fault. Emergency help →

An immobiliser fault feels like theft protection turned against the owner: your key, your vehicle, and a computer that no longer believes the two belong together. The causes are usually mundane — a transponder that has died, an antenna ring around the key barrel gone weak, wiring between the reader and the ECU chafed through, or the stored security data itself corrupted after a voltage spike or a flat-battery episode.

Each of those has a proper repair, and all of them are bench work we do: keys re-taught or replaced, antenna rings and wiring repaired, and corrupted sync data corrected at EEPROM level on the same bench that handles our ECU work. The diagnosis names the failing layer first, so you pay to fix the layer that failed — not to replace parts in hopeful order.

Vehicles come to this bench from other workshops across the belt, usually after the guessing phase has run its course. Bring the vehicle, every key you have, and the story of when it started — with immobilisers, the history is half the diagnosis.

What it costs

Immobiliser fault diagnosis and repair ₹1,500 – ₹4,000 depending on the failing layer

A key-side fault sits at the bottom of the band; EEPROM-level data repair higher. The layer is identified and the figure agreed before repair work starts.

Immobiliser repair — what you should know

The one thing we will not do

We repair immobilisers so they work as designed. We do not disable them, remove them, or make a vehicle run without asking for its key — not for convenience, not for resale, not for any story, at any price. A vehicle that stops checking for its key is a vehicle anyone can drive away, and no honest workshop will build you one. The proper repair usually costs little more than the shortcut and leaves your vehicle protecting itself.

It started after the battery went flat

A deep discharge or a clumsy jump start is a classic trigger: the stored handshake data gets scrambled and the system fails safe — engine locked. That is not a new immobiliser needed; it is data repair, and it is routine work on this bench.

One key works, the other does not

Then the system is healthy and one transponder is dying — the cheapest version of this whole page.

Key-side work lives at transponder key programming →, and if every key is gone the calm version of the bad day is all keys lost →.

When the fault is really the ECU

Immobiliser sync corruption at EEPROM level sits inside the engine computer itself — the same fault family our board-level bench opens daily.

That deeper bench is ECU repair →.

Immobiliser, key, or something ordinary?

Security lamp flashing, no crank or crank-and-die — the immobiliser chain deserves the first look.

No lamp drama, just silence and a click — battery, connections or the self; cheaper suspects first.

The wider no-start sorting lives at car not starting →.

Key or remote misbehaving on its own? Start at car key not working →.

Immobiliser repair — common questions

What does immobiliser repair cost?

₹1,500 – ₹4,000 — where in the band depends on whether the fault is the key, the antenna, the wiring or the stored data. Diagnosis pins that down before any figure is final.

Another shop says the immobiliser can simply be removed. Should I?

No — and we will not do it. Removing the check leaves a vehicle any key-shaped object can start, weakens any insurance conversation after a theft, and solves nothing the proper repair does not solve better.

Can this be fixed the same day?

Key-side and antenna faults usually, yes. Data-level repair depends on the vehicle's security generation — you get the honest timeline at diagnosis, not a promise built to win the job.

Do I need to bring all my keys?

Yes — every key you have, working or not. The bench needs to see what the system currently trusts, and finishing the job often includes re-teaching the full set.
