At Kallukatti, Kaliyakkavilai — on the NH-47 (now NH-66), near the Nayara petrol pump — and at our Pudukadai branch. Open from 8 AM, every day.

after-hours emergency line — call any time: 094872 34923

Also called: brake light, stop lamp, brake switch, tail lamp. Your brake lights are the only conversation you have with the vehicle behind you. When they stop talking, the lorry back there is reading silence at 60 km/h.

When you need this

Rear-lamp work is urgent when: the brake lights never come on — confirmed by a helper or a reflection, since you cannot see them from the seat; they burn continuously and drain the battery overnight; one side or the number-plate lamp is dark; or the third brake light has quietly resigned.

Told at a checkpoint or by another driver that your brake lights are dead? Take it seriously and call 094872 34923 — being rear-ended is the accident where the other party's insurer points at your dead stop lamps. Emergency help →

Brake lights fail at a switch most owners never meet: the stop lamp switch, a humble button riding the brake pedal. When it wears open, the lamps never light; when it wears closed, they never go out — cooking bulbs, draining the battery by morning, and telling every driver behind you that you are braking when you are not. Either failure costs little to repair and a great deal to ignore.

The rest of the rear-lamp chain is familiar territory: bulbs and holders furred by damp, the boot-lid wiring that flexes with every opening, and the shared earth that produces the classic comedy — press the brake and the indicator glows, because current is finding its way home through the wrong filament. That crossed-earth trick confuses everyone it happens to and takes this bench minutes to end.

On this page the stakes ride behind you: lorries and buses on the NH-66 stop by what your tail tells them. We treat rear lamps as the safety circuit they are — tested with a helper on the pedal, repaired at the failed link, and confirmed working before the vehicle faces traffic again.

Brake & tail lamps — what you should know

Stuck-on brake lights empty batteries

A stop switch jammed closed keeps two or three filaments burning all night — and delivers a flat, mystery battery by dawn.

If your battery keeps dying without a reason, check the brake lights at night before anything else — then read battery keeps dying →.

The brake switch moonlights on modern cars

On many push-button and automatic vehicles the same switch tells the car it may start or shift out of park. A failing stop switch can therefore present as a starting problem — a car that will not wake until the pedal is pumped. A strange symptom with a small, cheap cause.

Brake pressed, indicator glows — the earth is lying

Crossed behaviour at the rear cluster is the signature of a corroded common earth, this coast's favourite trick. Cleaning and restoring the earth point cures a whole family of hauntings in one go.

Autos and lorries carry the same duty

A load-carrier's tail speaks for a longer, heavier stop — and permit checks read rear lamps closely. Three-wheeler and commercial rear-lamp work is same-visit business here.

Brake & tail lamps — common questions

What does brake light repair cost?

₹150 – ₹400 per fault — switch, bulb, wiring or earth. It sits among the smallest bills in the workshop, which is the best argument for fixing it today.

How do I check my own brake lights?

Reverse close to a wall at dusk and press the pedal — the red glow in the mirror is your answer. No wall needed if a family member stands behind for ten seconds. Do it monthly; the lamps you cannot see are the ones that fail silently.

The third brake light is out but the main two work.

Still worth fixing — it is the lamp at the following driver's eye height, and on many cars it fails from its own separate wiring run, so the main lamps say nothing about it.

Tail lamps work but brake lights are dim.

Dim stop lamps under bright tail lamps usually mean voltage lost through a tired earth or corroded holders — the full-brightness repair is quick, and the difference behind you at night is not small.
