Horn repair — your loudest safety device, back on duty
At Kallukatti, Kaliyakkavilai — on the NH-47 (now NH-66), near the Nayara petrol pump — and at our Pudukadai branch. Open from 8 AM, every day.
Also called: horn, hooter. On Indian roads the horn is not a courtesy — it is how vehicles see each other around blind bends and past bus tails. A silent one is a missing sense.
When you need this
Horn work is due when: pressing the button produces nothing; the sound has gone thin, hoarse or single-note where there were two; it works only when the wheel is held just so; or — the neighbourhood favourite — it blows by itself at 2 AM until someone pulls the fuse.
Horn jammed on and waking the street? Pull the horn fuse or relay if you know it, and call 094872 34923 — a stuck horn is a stuck relay or pressed contact, and it is a quick cure. Emergency help →
A horn circuit is short and honest: button in the steering wheel, a slip contact that lets the wheel turn while the wire does not, a relay, a fuse, the horn units and their earth. Each failure has its accent — silence with a clicking relay is the horn unit or its earth; silence without the click is button, contact or relay; a horn that works only at certain wheel angles is the slip contact announcing retirement.
Repairs follow the accent: horn units cleaned, adjusted or replaced in matched pairs, relays swapped from stock, steering contacts and clock-spring connections repaired with the care the airbag-era wheel demands, and earths restored to full voice. Twin-horn setups that have dropped to one sad note get their harmony back — often by adjustment rather than parts.
Cars, autos, lorries, tractors: every class of vehicle in the belt brings its horn here, and almost all leave the same day.
What it costs

Relay and earth-side faults sit at the small end; horn units by the pair where replacement is honest. Diagnosis is minutes, not money.

Horn — what you should know
Weak or hoarse is usually voltage, not the horn
A horn fed through corroded contacts sounds like it needs replacing when it only needs feeding — the voltage-drop check comes before any new unit, and it saves a surprising number of them.
The steering wheel's hidden wire
Modern wheels route the horn through the same coiled connector that serves the airbag, and it deserves respect, not prying. Wheel-side horn faults are handled with the right procedure so the repair never creates a costlier problem.
Fitting louder or twin horns
Extra or upgraded horns need their own relay and fusing — hung straight off the button wire they burn the slip contact within months.
Accessory fitting done properly is part of the wiring bench: auto-electrical wiring →.

Horn — common questions
What does horn repair cost?
₹150 – ₹400 — most faults land at the small end, and the diagnosis takes minutes with the button in front of us.
Horn works when the wheel is straight but not while turning.
The slip contact behind the wheel is worn — a known, contained repair, and better done before it takes the horn with it entirely.
Is a silent horn really urgent?
On these roads, yes — overtaking, bends and bus shadows all assume you can be heard. It is also checked at fitness inspections on commercial vehicles; a working horn is the cheapest pass on the sheet.
