ECU and ECM repair — board-level work, done in this district, not sent away

At Kallukatti, Kaliyakkavilai — on the NH-47 (now NH-66), near the Nayara petrol pump. ECU bench work is done at this branch.

after-hours emergency line — call any time: 094872 34923

Also called: ECU, ECM, engine computer, control unit. Whatever the badge on the vehicle calls it, it is the box that runs the engine — and "replace it at the dealer" is very often not the only option.

When you need this

The ECU enters the story when: the vehicle will not start though the dash lights up and the self cranks; several unrelated sensor faults appear at once; the engine died after a jump start, a welding job or an alternator failure; or water has been where water should not be.

Vehicle immobile and the trail points at the computer? Call 094872 34923 — describe what happened just before it died; with ECU faults, that history is half the diagnosis. Emergency help →

This is the work we are known for, and the reason vehicles arrive here from other workshops: electronic control units repaired at board level, on a bench built for it. Component-level soldering. Burnt injector and coil driver circuits replaced. Corroded tracks repaired after water ingress. EEPROM contents read, corrected and written back. Complete reprogramming where the software, not the silicon, is the casualty.

We open ECUs from every family this district drives — Bosch, Delphi, Denso, Continental, Siemens, Magneti Marelli — and scan every make at full system depth, not the generic surface an OBD bazaar scanner reads. The bench carries LAUNCH X431 PRO Elite, Autel MaxiIM IM608 II, OBDSTAR DC706 and PCMTuner: named because anyone in the trade knows what that list means.

One pattern deserves its own warning. Intra-city commercial vehicles — the Dost and Imperio class — running heavy aftermarket loads of horns and lights push their alternators flat out; when the voltage regulator then fails, the surge runs straight down the ECU's power supply track. If you run such vehicles, that is a preventable bill: have the charging system checked before it presents you the expensive version.

What it costs

ECU / ECM board-level repair ₹3,500 – ₹6,500 depending on the damage found

Diagnosis comes first and the finding is shown to you — the burnt track, the corroded corner — before a repair price is quoted. If the unit is beyond repair, you hear that at diagnosis stage, not after.

ECU repair — what you should know

What board-level actually means

Not swap-and-pray. The failed component is identified — a driver transistor, a capacitor, a corroded track, a corrupted EEPROM sector — and that component is repaired or replaced on the original board. Your ECU keeps its identity, which on immobiliser-era vehicles saves the whole cascade of matching work a replacement unit drags in.

What we cannot repair, stated plainly

A cooked microprocessor, fractures inside the board's inner layers, or a unit that is physically destroyed — those are replacements, not repairs, and we say so at diagnosis. A workshop that claims to fix everything is telling you something; we would rather tell you the truth.

The faults we open most

Burnt injector and coil driver stages. Water-ingress corrosion eating tracks. Immobiliser sync data corrupted at EEPROM level. And overcharge burnout from a failed regulator — the surge that arrives through the supply line and stops everything at once.

What we do not do at all

No odometer alteration, no emissions-system deletes, and no defeating of immobilisers or security — on any vehicle, for any story. Immobiliser faults have a legitimate repair path: immobiliser diagnosis and repair →.

Is it really the ECU?

Cranks strongly, dash alive, several systems complaining at once — the ECU belongs on the suspect list.

Will not crank at all, or one single circuit is dead — look lower down the chain before blaming the computer.

An engine light with a running engine starts at engine check light →.

Died mid-drive and now silent? Work through vehicle stopped while driving → first.

Confirmed ECU casualty needing software rather than solder? ECU programming, coding and cloning → is the next bench.

ECU repair — common questions

What does ECU repair cost against a new unit?

₹3,500 – ₹6,500 for board-level repair — typically a fraction of a new unit once the dealer adds coding and matching. When replacement genuinely wins, we say so and can program the replacement properly.

Other garages mentioned sending my ECU somewhere. Is that here?

Very likely — workshops across this belt send ECU and immobiliser work to our bench, and have for years. You are welcome to come direct; the vehicle history helps, so bring what you know.

My ECU got wet in the floods. Dead forever?

Often not — water damage caught early is corroded tracks and connectors, which is repairable work. Do not power it repeatedly to test it; each attempt cooks more. Bring it in dry and soon.

Can you scan my vehicle even if it is an uncommon make?

Yes — full-system scanning on all makes is standard here, not generic-port-only. Diagnostic scan and fault reading →

Will repair disturb the immobiliser matching?

Board-level repair keeps your original unit, which is exactly why matching usually survives. Where immobiliser data itself is the corruption, that is bench work we do too — legitimately, on the owner's vehicle.
