ECU programming, coding and cloning — three ways to marry a computer to a car
At Kallukatti, Kaliyakkavilai — on the NH-47 (now NH-66), near the Nayara petrol pump. Bench programming is done at this branch.
Also called: flashing, coding, ECU cloning, virgin ECU. Different words for one problem: the electronics are willing, but the software and the security data do not yet agree with the vehicle.
When you need this
You need programming when: a replacement ECU has been fitted and the car refuses to start; a scrapyard unit needs adapting to your vehicle; the immobiliser and the engine computer have stopped agreeing; or a repair has left a unit that needs its software rebuilt.

Fitting a different ECU to a car is not a plug-in job. The unit must carry the right software for that exact vehicle, and its security data must be brought into agreement with the immobiliser, the keys and the body electronics — otherwise the engine sits silent while every part of it is healthy. Making that agreement happen, properly, is what this bench does.
There are three honest routes, and we work all three. Writing a virgin ECU — the dealership method — where a brand-new unit is programmed for the vehicle from official data. Virginising a used ECU — the aftermarket method — where a second-hand unit is returned to an unlearned state so your vehicle can adopt it as its own. And writing to a completely blank chip — the electronics-bench method — for units and vehicles where the first two doors are closed. Very few workshops in this district can walk the third road at all.
Cloning belongs here too, and it is a legitimate repair path with a specific use: when your original ECU is dying but still readable, its identity and data are copied onto a sound donor unit — so the vehicle keeps its own history, its own matching, its own keys. The scan tools and the bench programmers this takes — Autel, OBDSTAR, PCMTuner among them — live on this bench permanently.
What it costs
| ECU programming, coding or cloning | ₹4,000 – ₹8,000 depending on the vehicle and the route needed |
|---|
Quoted after we see what the vehicle and the unit actually need — dealership-method, adaptation and blank-chip work are different amounts of bench time, and you should not pay for the longest road when a shorter one exists.

ECU programming — what you should know
When cloning is the right answer
A failing-but-readable original plus a healthy donor equals a vehicle that never learns anything changed. Cloning preserves the matching a replacement would break — keys, immobiliser, the lot. When the original is already unreadable, cloning is off the table and adaptation takes over; we tell you which side of that line you are on at diagnosis.
Scrapyard ECU — bargain or trap?
Both, depending on what happens at the bench. A used unit still carrying its old vehicle's security data will fight yours forever. Properly virginised and programmed, the same unit is a sound, economical repair. The part is the cheap half; the marriage is the work.
Where the security line sits
All of this work is done on the owner's vehicle, with the vehicle present or its papers in hand. We repair and program immobiliser systems so they work as designed — we do not defeat, remove or work around security on any vehicle, and no story changes that. The legitimate path is here: immobiliser fault diagnosis and repair →.
After the ECU, the keys
A programmed ECU often needs its keys taught next — same bench, same visit.
Key and remote work lives at transponder key programming →.
Repair the old unit, or program another?
Original ECU faulty but its board is fixable — repair first; it keeps every marriage intact.
Original beyond the soldering iron — then programming a replacement is the road, and it is a well-paved one here.

Not yet sure the ECU is the villain? A full-system reading settles it: diagnostic scan →.

ECU programming — common questions
A garage fitted a second-hand ECU and my car will not start. Can you finish it?
This exact situation is weekly work here. The unit needs virginising and programming to your vehicle — bring the car, the unit and any old keys, and the bench does the rest.
What does programming cost?
₹4,000 – ₹8,000 by the route required — cloning a readable unit is quicker than blank-chip writing, and the quote comes before the work, not after.
Is ECU cloning legal work?
Yes — it is a repair method: your own vehicle's data moved to a sound unit so the car runs as itself. What we refuse is security-defeat work of any kind, for anyone.
Do I lose my keys or settings with a replacement ECU?
With cloning, no — the identity moves across. With a virgin or adapted unit, keys are re-taught at the same bench the same day. Either way you drive out with everything agreeing.
Can my vintage or commercial vehicle use this bench?
The bench serves everything with an ECU — cars, pickups, trucks, buses. Pre-computer vehicles have nothing to program, which is its own kind of blessing; their electrics live at vintage and classic electrical →.
