When you need this

The electrical half is your suspect when: no air comes from the vents at all; the blower works on one speed only, or the top speed alone survives; the compressor never clicks in — or clicks in and out constantly; the AC dies on hot idles; or the fuse for the system has opinions.

Car air-conditioning is two systems wearing one badge. The refrigerant side — gas, compressor internals, leaks — is a gas shop's trade, and we do not pretend otherwise. The electrical side is ours, and it fails more often: the blower motor and its speed resistor pack, the relay and clutch circuit that command the compressor, the condenser and radiator fans that carry the heat away, and the wiring that ties it together.

The split matters because guessing across it is expensive in both directions. A gas refill cannot cure a dead blower resistor, and no blower repair will fix a leaked-out system. So the first job here is an honest sort: we test the electrical chain end to end, fix what is ours, and if the evidence says refrigerant, we tell you plainly and you go to the gas bench knowing — instead of hoping.

One electrical fault on this page earns a special word: the cooling fan. It serves the AC and the engine both, and a fan circuit that has failed shows up as weak cooling in traffic first — and an overheating engine second. That one does not wait politely.

AC electricals — what you should know

One blower speed left is a resistor story

Blower speeds die in sequence as the resistor pack burns out step by step — top speed usually survives last because it skips the resistors. It is a small, satisfying repair, and it is the single commonest AC electrical fault we see.

The compressor that never clicks

That soft click when the AC engages is the clutch relay doing its work. No click means the command chain — switch, relay, pressure interlocks, clutch coil — has broken somewhere, and we trace it link by link. Plenty of "needs gas" verdicts arrive here and leave as a relay.

AC weak only in traffic

Moving air hides a lazy condenser fan; idling traffic exposes it. If cooling fades at signals and returns at speed, the fan circuit is the first suspect — and repairing it also protects the engine that shares the fan.

What does AC electrical repair cost?

Do you refill AC gas?

No — gas and compressor internals are a refrigerant shop's work. We repair the electrical half, and we tell you honestly which half your fault lives in before you spend on either.

My blower works but no cold at all.

Could be either half: a clutch circuit that never engages the compressor, or a system with no gas to move. The electrical test settles the first quickly — and if it passes, you head to the gas bench with a diagnosis instead of a guess.

Bus and lorry cabin fans too?

Yes — commercial cab blowers and fan circuits are regular work, and a driver who cannot stay alert in the heat is a fleet problem, not a comfort problem.
